Through this programme, students will learn about the urban planning challenges faced by Singapore since our independence and how we can continue to succeed by being innovative. Singapore Discovery Centre is managed by Defence Collective Singapore.

INTRODUCTION & CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES [30 MINS]

Explore the idea of population growth and changing needs versus land constraints. Learn how Singapore overcame housing challenges since her independence and how we can continue to overcome land constraint challenges.

GUIDED SOLAR PANEL TOUR [30 MINS]

Develop a deeper understanding of how Singapore can overcome its land constraints with technology and innovation. Students will observe how solar panels work through a tour of the centre’s solar panel clusters.

TOWN PLANNING SESSION & DEBRIEF [1 HOUR 10 MINS]

Students will take on the role of town planners and plan their ideal future neighbourhood through a hands-on activity. They will learn and discover how every decision that they make will have an impact on the environment, people and land development

Objectives:

1. Learn about urban planning in land-scarce Singapore and the importance of managing our land resources.

2. Learn how Singapore maximises land options through innovative ways, to overcome its natural constraints.

Target Audience: Pri 3 - 6 students
