Fostering Understanding of Racial Harmony: Let Us Sing Together
School Levels
Secondary
Let’s spark real conversations and reflection through the power of theatre. Our Interactive Theatre on Racial Harmony is a dynamic and thought-provoking assembly programme that aims to foster understanding and appreciation of each other’s cultures and differences. By promoting the importance of acceptance, respect, and open-mindedness for all, we hope that students can set aside their differences and work together to achieve harmony across cultures.
Synopsis:
Let Us Sing Together is an interactive performance about four students from different cultural backgrounds who enter a competition in pairs, only to be reshuffled into mixed-gender duos at the last minute. Their new partnerships spark clashes in style and culture, but through conflict, discovery, and audience participation, they learn to value each other’s traditions and create a powerful performance that celebrates harmony across cultures.
In this engaging session, students will:
Explore what racial harmony means in a multicultural society like Singapore;
Reflect on how words and actions can affect others;
Recognise the impact of unconscious bias and exclusion; and
Practise standing up and speaking out with kindness and respect.
This presentational theatre format allows students not just to observe, but to participate, rethink, and rehearse better ways to build empathy and understanding across differences. Designed to be relatable and student-led, this programme empowers young minds to be active contributors to a more inclusive and harmonious school environment.
