Makan in the Dark
As students &/or staff partake in a meal in darkness, usually with no clue on what the menu items are, they undergo a transformational yet challenging process relying on their other senses to help them dine. Suitable as a social or team-building event, Makan in the Dark allows participants to step out of their comfort zone in a fun, unique way, while building a sense of empathy and camaraderie.
Details
Staff/Students will be led to their table in total darkness in groups of up to 7. They will be served their food by a blind facilitator who will also join them to eat in the dark, and share stories and challenges faced by the blind community.
Learning Objectives
Students/staff will get to foster team cohesivenes and energise team vitality in a fun, memorable way whilst also gaining insights into some of the challenges and views of someone living with a disability. They will also tap into their other senses as they enjoy their meal in total darkness, and develop a sense of gratitide for their sense of sight.
