Resilience Trails (Skillseed)

Resilience Trails is Skillseed's place-based, community-led initiative offering flexible, well-paid, home-based work to lower-income families via paid trails in Community Guides' own neighbourhoods. Beyond boosting earnings, it gives Guides a platform to voice their stories and strengths, promoting their agency and dignity. Participants gain empathy for vulnerable communities' lived experiences, while the trails connect local assets, sparking community collaboration.

Details

Each Resilience Trails consists of a 15 min pre-trail briefing, followed by a 2.5h learning trail in the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood. To apply our learning from the trail, participants will be linked up with various social service organisations for volunteering opportunities.

Each Community Guide runs a unique trail and covers different social issues. Skillseed can curate the reflections segment to best suit learning objectives and to help bridge a link to civic capacity or volunteering.

Learning Objectives:

  • Hear firsthand from our Community Guide on their journey of empowerment from a beneficiary to an active volunteer

  • Contrast our initial assumptions & perceptions with newly gained perspectives of the community

  • Observe and identify strengths of the individual, community and environment, and how they have created value to further develop the community for themselves

  • Learn about social mobility and inequality in an engaging and respectful manner

  • Apply their learning from the trails to engage with the community through volunteering opportunities

Target Audience: Sec 1 to 4/5, Post-Sec (JC/Poly/ITE)

Duration of Session: 5 hours - please note that the Resilience Trails and volunteering segments can be conducted on separate days (i.e. can be 3h on one day for the trail and 2h another day for volunteering).
