Set sail on a journey of discovery with our Raffles Lighthouse Tour. Cruise through the bustling Singapore Strait, where towering ships navigate our waters, showcasing the heart of our maritime industry. As you approach the horizon, you’ll discover the enchanting Raffles Lighthouse, an iconic beacon with a rich history. Step ashore to learn about the lighthouse and visit its heritage gallery. Join us for an immersive maritime journey, where the past meets the present against the breathtaking backdrop of the open sea! The Raffles Lighthouse Tour is available for participants above 12 years of age.
Details
This tour will begin with a one-hour guided tour of the Singapore Maritime Gallery, followed by a ferry ride to Pulau Satumu, where Raffles Lighthouse is located. The ferry will sail past Sentosa, Pulau Sebarok, and Pulau Semakau on the journey to Raffles Lighthouse. Participants will have approximately an hour to explore the island and heritage gallery before embarking on the return journey to Marina South Pier. During the return journey, participants will learn more about the Singapore Strait, Sisters’ Island, St John’s Island, and Kusu Island.
Learning Objectives
This programme allows participants to:
1. Understand maritime operations: Participants will gain insights into the intricate workings of the maritime industry as they cruise through the bustling Singapore Strait, observing the operations of cargo ships, vessels, and maritime activities.
2. Learn about maritime infrastructure: Participants will get up close to the crucial maritime infrastructure such as our sea buoys and beacons, and fascinating facilities on Pulau Satumu. Participants will also gain insights into the various roles in supporting Singapore’s shipping activities.
3. Explore nautical heritage: Participants will get to step ashore at the historic Raffles Lighthouse and explore its interiors to uncover its rich maritime heritage, including its role in navigation and its historical significance.
4. Maritime conservation efforts: Participants will get to discover the importance of preserving the biodiversity around Singapore’s southern islands, understand how the maritime industry actively contributes to marine conservation, protecting vital ecosystems while sustaining maritime operations.
