Step into Singapore's community building journey at Our Community Gallery, where the stories of community leaders, volunteers and everyday changemakers come alive. Located at the National Community Leadership Institute, this interactive gallery showcases how ordinary Singaporeans have shaped extraordinary communities over the decades. Our Community Gallery offers an engaging experience that celebrates our past while inspiring future community participation. Discover the evolution of Singapore’s community building efforts through immersive exhibits, personal narratives, and inspiring examples of community leadership. From the early days of nation-building to today's innovative community building landscape, explore how collective action and shared purpose have strengthened Singapore's social fabric.
Details: Students will be brought through four immersive zones that showcase Singapore’s community building journey:

Singapore's Turbulent Beginnings: Experience the 1960s racial riots and curfews through immersive recreations, understanding the challenges of early nation-building.

Forging Our Path to Social Cohesion: Explore how common spaces like void decks and community clubs became the heart of neighbourhood bonding across diverse communities.

Weathering Crises as a Community: Discover stories of ordinary Singaporeans who became everyday heroes during crises like SARS and COVID-19, demonstrating collective resilience.

Charting Our Way Forward: Engage with interactive installations to learn about the experiences of ordinary Singaporeans contributing to the community and make personal pledges for building Singapore's future. The gallery experience can be enhanced with a post-visit debrief session at the Community Loft, a purpose-built learning space adjoining the gallery. NACLI is offering complimentary use of this versatile space suitable for: • Post-visit reflections and discussions • Classroom sessions and seminars • Student presentations • Dialogues with community leaders and practitioners • Interactive learning sessions that complement your curriculum, such as fireside chats This flexible learning environment features tiered seating and projection facilities and can accommodate various class sizes and formats up to 50 pax, making it ideal for extending classroom experience beyond traditional settings.
Learning Objectives: Students will discover how Singapore transformed from a period of social unrest in the 1960s into today's united, multicultural nation. Through interactive exploration of key historical events, they will learn about the community development and nation-building efforts that shaped modern Singapore. Students will also reflect on the importance of active citizenship, racial harmony, and collective resilience, while discovering how they can contribute meaningfully to their own communities and our ongoing nation-building journey to shape Singapore's "We-First" society. Our Community Gallery offers rich learning opportunities that align with the learning objectives with academic disciplines and programmes: • Historical Perspectives: Understanding Singapore's community development journey and the evolution of social policies • Community Diversity: Examining how diverse communities have come together to build our multicultural society • Leadership Development: Drawing insights from leaders who have driven meaningful community-led change • Community Engagement: Exploring the importance of community participation in governance and nation-building • Applied Learning: Real-world examples of successful community initiatives and their impact

Duration of Session: The gallery tour takes approximately 1 hour. An optional programme debrief session is available after the tour and can be customised based on the school's learning objectives and available time.
Programme Capacity: Maximum 50 pax per session. Prior to the session, groups will gather at NACLI - The Aspiration, before entering the gallery in batches of 25 pax. Post-visit debriefs can be conducted at the Community Loft for groups of up to 50 pax.
